Artificial Intelligence, Robots and Privacy Oh My!

Learning about the history of artificial intelligence and robots is always exciting because there is never ending facts and stories that keep me interested in learning more. The fact that robots are thought of as being cool and ‘the future’ is sometimes how I think, but then you always have that one person who brings you back to reality and reminds you about the movies where robots turn evil. I personally think that there are good people out there inventing robots to help people in need of more assistance, like replacing limbs so people who do not have any can function better on their own. I sometimes think that people create some robots solely to be the first ones to create them, like they know that making these sex robots *cringe* will become popular, so they need to make them before anyone else does so that they can get all the credit. I really try to be optimistic about these things, but it is truly hard to keep to one side of if robots are really going to benefit us.

Startup.com

The documentary, Startup.com, was interesting because I usually do not watch documentaries about businesses growing from scratch with best friends of many years. Right off the bat I could see that Kaleil was going to be the head boss since his way of speaking to people and telling them what he wanted them to do and what he expected was clear and no one else could tell him he could not do it. Tom kind of annoyed me but I did not want to judge him right off the bat, even though I felt like him and Kaleil were good friends, I did not think they would ever be successful business partners. Watching the Internet revolution that expanded models and dreams for a lot of money was stressful for me to see, let alone how they were working through it all. I think that I have to agree with you when you stated that Kaliel should have dropped Tom when he was talking about how ‘even if the company fails, they would still be friends’ because it showed that he was not serious about the company. I never thought I would enjoy a documentary like this, but I liked seeing how things went at those times building a company with the Internet!

What Makes a Community

I think a community is a place you should feel like you can trust, and rely on, people who you know would have your back and help you when you need help. A community is a place where people come together and find common interests and share resources that they think other would benefit off of. Community, to me, is a place and persons. It can be a safety blanket for people who do not feel like they belong anywhere, or even a group like fandoms where people who enjoy the same things come together and do not judge anyone, no matter what their beliefs are. I feel like a community does not have to be in one place either, it can move and travel to any destination as long as everyone in that community stays together and supports everyone as a whole.

HTML page Construction

The HTML page construction was not that hard to construct for me because the instructions were simple to follow. I tend to be more tech savvy than my family and friends so reading over the steps you gave us was pretty quick and simple. I honestly thought it would be a bit harder because I usually do not mess with HTML page construction so I do not have much background, but I was glad that I did not have to feel the anxiety of pulling out my hair while trying to make the whole thing work! I think it was fun more than anything, I really enjoyed seeing that I could personalize my page to whatever I wanted. I also did not think about how much work goes into making an HTML page, let alone building an entire website. I had a lot of fun writing different things and making them bold or italic or move across the screen, it kept things really interesting and exciting. I think understanding how little it took to do what I did to my page, the possibilities are endless to making another page or website!

What I Would Never Buy Online

I personally hate it when I go to stores and try on cute outfits and feel all great inside thinking I am going to come back out fitting perfectly into every single one of them. Well, that is not always the case for me. I tend to find stores that have super cute outfits that I go in looking for my next outing or laid back outfit, but only find out that their BIGGEST size is XXS. My point is, unless I go to stores that I know or find out that fit my body type, cute clothes that fit my body can be super hard to find. I would NEVER buy clothes online if I never tried them on, especially if they come from outside the United States. Now, this is not because I am some closed minded jerk, but more because I know (sometimes from reviews) that they will not properly fit my body, and can sometimes have super cheap material that looks nothing like the pictures. One lesson I have learned from reading comments and friends/family, do not buy clothes from online unless you APSOLUTELY know it will fit and look like it was made just for you. Another, make sure to always go into the fitting rooms with low expectations, that way you will never be disappointed if you end up walking out of the fitting room with nothing in your hands!

The Machine is (US)ing US

I genuinely enjoyed the beginning of this video; the simplicity of the entire intro really left a mark on me because it smacked me in the face with reality. Starting “Text is linear” with pencil then going into the computer text with “Digital text is different” showed me how different both texts were, especially with writing erasing with pencil and writing and deleting with digital text. Stating that digital text is more adaptable is so true, especially with how I live my life today, with writing notes for class to writing online to friends. Seeing him link words into the one sentence and then cutting and pasting them in a different section of the sentence made me realize how everything connected and fit with one another. For example, when he linked the hypertext with one word to another was interesting because I am just so used to clicking a link without a second thought. I am used to not asking myself, “I clicked on this hyperlink and it brought me somewhere completely different, but how?” Taking a step back and watching him do the hyperlink in front of me reminded me that with everything thing I click/post online, something happens within an entirely different world to make that happen. I also learned that you could view the code of a page by clicking on View Source and reading the script and learning how that page was put together, which also informed me more about how earlier websites were written in HTML.
